Tattoo is a 2018 Foreword INDIES Finalist!

I received some exciting news today: The list of finalists for the 2018 Foreword INDIES came out, and Tattoo, by Michelle Rene, is a finalist in the Fantasy categoryTattoo book cover: stylized image of a young white woman

Tattoo is a great story, but it is a hard to categorize story, so it is gratifying to see other people recognize its charms. Tattoo tells the story of a mysterious young woman who appears in a cynical age – but faces danger from people who fear her. A small band of people find themselves drawn to help her, and the book tells the story through their eyes.

There are many things I love about running a small independent publishing company. I get to share stories that I love with the world, and seeing a story turn from a manuscript into a book is a thrill. But getting other people to notice the book I love is always a challenge. There are so many books competing for attention, as evidenced by my own ever-growing “to read” stack. I don’t have anything close to the marketing budget a big company has for its books. I try to make up for that with enthusiasm and some creativity. Sometimes, though, I’m not sure if the message is getting through.

But today, I know that the message got through for Tattoo. Michelle Rene wrote a wonderful story, and I’m so glad that other people see that, too!
