Don’t Call It Bollywood, the introduction to Hindi film by Margaret E. Redlich, comes out on June 1. To celebrate, we’re hosting a watch along of the beloved Hindi film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Margaret has chosen this film as a great introduction to Hindi film for newbies (like me!) and a favorite film to rewatch for longtime fans (like her).
As Margaret writes in Don’t Call It Bollywood, “To watch an Indian film alone is to lose half the message.” So we’re assembling a virtual audience to enjoy this film together.
We’re starting the film at 6 p.m. PDT/9 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 2. We’ll be tweeting from @AnnorlundaInc (the newbie perspective) and @mredlich1 (the longtime fan perspective). We’ll be using the hashtags #K3G, #watchalong, and #DCIB. If you include at least two of those, we’ll notice your tweets. We’ll retweet some, and make a Storify later, too.
You can stream the film via Amazon video or Netflix.
Still on the fence? Here is a completely independent assessment of why you should stream Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
If you want a little background before you watch the film, preorder Don’t Call It Bollywood now! It will be on your ereader Wednesday morning.
